ABOUT US

Our Mission...

To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation - one individual, one community at a time.

Auburn and Kent have had Sister City relationships with Japan for over 50 years. As part of a consolidation effort, the Japanese government combined Auburn's Sister City of Kasuga, Kent's Sister City of Kaibara, and four other area cities renaming them the city of Tamba. As a result, Kent and Auburn now share Tamba as their Japanese Sister City and have combined their resources and activities. Some of the programs and activities this organization has supported and promoted include:

  • Youth Ambassador Exchange:  8th, 9th and 10th grade Auburn-Kent and Tamba students serve as youth ambassadors for their home cities by visiting and staying in one another's homes for ten days in the summer (we pay a portion of the airfare for the Kent-Auburn students and their chaperone).

  • Year Long High School Exchange:  An Auburn-Kent senior high school student spends a year with a Tamba student's family and the Tamba student spends a year with the Auburn-Kent youth's family.

  • Delegation Hosts:  Committee members and youth ambassador families host cultural, educational and business delegations between Auburn-Kent and Tamba.

  • Cultural Events:  The KAT Sister City Association participates in cultural events such as the Kent International Festival, Auburn Days Parade, and other civic and cultural events.
